I am Janne Paavilainen, Finnish games researcher working in Game Research Lab, University of Tampere. This is my personal website dedicated to my academic work, teaching, and industry consulting.

My interests are in game revenue models, game design, and player experiences. I am especially interested in game usability and playability issues. I have published numerous peer-reviewed articles on these topics.

With over 10 years of experience in games research, I have lead several research projects and worked in collaboration with many Finnish games companies. In addition to research, I teach at the University of Tampere and I also provide talks and industry consulting.

I am currently finishing my PhD thesis “Free-to-Play in Social Networks” where I use Facebook games to study the interconnections of free-to-play revenue model, social network game design, and player experiences.
